What would happen if I never had an oil change?
Even if your engine has plenty of oil, that doesn't mean you don't need it changed. these two things will definitely happen:
  1. Dirt accumulation in the oil is inevitable. The filter will remove the dirt for awhile but eventually the filter will clog and the dirt will bypass the filter through the relief valve. Dirty oil is thick and can be abrasive, therefore it causes more wear on your engine.
  2. Additives in the oil like rust-inhibitors, detergent, dispersants, and friction reducers will all wear out eventually, and the oil will not lubricate as it should.

As the oil gets more and more dirty, and it stops lubricating the engine will wear and fail.  Don' worry if you miss an oil change, and go over the recommended interval by 500 miles. Catastrophic engine failure would happen thousands of miles down the road.
